Tales of the Slayer: Rightous

The next story in the mythos of the slayer is once more written by the creator himself, Joss Whedon. This next installment isn't so much about the Slayer herself, a good religious girl who saves her town from a horrible Vampire who has been going from town to town killing everyone.

The see how this young girl takes her first steps into being a hero, being a saver. It isn't an easy life nor a fun one but it is one that she gives herself over to it entirely. The big bad vampire comes to town and none of the men are brave enough to face this monster. They had behind their doors as if the creature will just go away. No such luck. Our hero jumps into the fight and gives it her all. The battle is rough but in the end the Slayer stands tall and the vamp blows away, dust in the wind.

A nearby Priest praises God for the death of the vampire then condemns the slayer as a witch. Without missing a beat the town take the girl who just saved all of them and ties her up as they light her on fire. Her watcher is forced to stand by and watch as she dies. Her eyes locked on him, begging him to help but he is powerless.

He is also the true lead of this story. That night when the people of the town went to sleep, proud of their actions, the man sneaks out and opens the gates of the city so that the vampire king's men can storm the city and kill everyone. Even the watcher, a fate that he is more than ok with.

The story is a sad one, the thought that someone can give so much of them-self and have people turn on them the first second they get. It is a feeling I get all the time when I am at NLC. It's a horrible school, but back on topic, once more Joss Whedon manages to get you to feel for a character and even relate to someone who does something so evil and heartless. He set a town up to die at the hands of vampires and yet you feel the just in his actions. How could you not?
