So enough chit chat, let's get to the review. If you recall last time, we left off with the two slayers in a stand off in Angel's apartment as we learn that this new girl, Kendra was also a vampire slayer. Say what! And that is right where we pick up. The two slayers facing each other arguing over who is the real slayer. After a tense few moments where Kendra tells Buffy information she already knows, such as when the slayer dies anther will be called, the two agree to call a truce and go and talk to Buffy's Watcher, who we all know to be the one and only Giles.
On a side note, outside of this review, the Buffy fan pages on Facebook are insane. And I mean insane, someone admitted to not liking Joyce and it's like okay, I'm right there with you and people went crazy. Not only defending what might be the worst mother in the history of the world but also bashing Giles and Oz. Uh what? Who doesn't love Giles and Oz? What happened in your childhood that makes you hate either one of them? There is just no pleasing some people I swear! Anyways, back to the episode at hand. The vamp with the soul, Mr. Angel himself, is still locked up in the cage at Willies. The sun is moving towards him at an alarming rate. The credits save him, for now! Back at the library Giles tries to make sense of how Kendra could also be a slayer. Once Willow shows up Kendra starts calling everything into question. A slayer should work alone, and yet Buffy has friends. While explaining it to Willow Giles figures out that Buffy drowning is what caused Kendra to be summoned. Kendra calls Angel Angelus, something that just fills me with joy. It's around this time that the gang learn what Kendra did to Angel. Buffy is beyond pissed and can you blame her? This girl just comes in, steals her destiny and tries to kill her boyfriend. That's a no no. Lucky for Angel Willie drags him out of the cage and drops him in the sewer before the sun can get him. Well maybe not to lucky. He sold him to Spike. Could this be the end of the ensouled vampire? Back at the Buffy house Cordy is trying to buy makeup from a weird guy who turns out to be out of bugs. Xander comes in and tries to remove him from the house before getting wise and running. The two of them dart into the basement as the bug man tries to come into the room from beneath the door. Kendra and Buffy question Willie but he lies through his teeth. We start to see just how different these two slayers are. Spike brings Angel to Dru and tells her that one the ritual is completed she will be back to normal. Dru smiles and asks if she can play. Now if you know the back story between these two you know that nothing good can come from this. From everything we know so far it would seem that the ritual could be deadly for Angel. The watchers agree that Kendra should stay and help out Buffy till everything is taken care of, something that doesn't sit well with Buffy. Part of her feels like she isn't good enough, or at least that she doesn't want this life. She toys with the idea of giving the slayer gig over to Kendra while she tries to live a normal life. It's a nice dream that you have to imagine that she thinks about a lot. Could you blame her? Now here comes one of my favorite moments of the Buffyverse, the start of Xander and Cordy. I love these two together. I mean I understand why they didn't work out but they were still great for each other and you can't help but feel like they truly care for one another. It also always makes me laugh how their relationship, at least in the start was always sprung on by hate. The two share their first kiss and get freaked out and dart out of there as fast as they could. The bug man drops down on Cordy and Xander has to hose her off before they take off in her car. Now I'm not big on bugs but bugs that are also a demon, that would just be scary. And while we are on couples that you can't help but love, Willow and Oz have a great little moment where we start to see how much they fit together. They are both just the right kind of odd. To bad their moment is broken up by a cop trying to kill Buffy and shooting Oz in the arm. The cop takes Jonathan, you know the co-creator of Empire, hostage and Kendra has to save the day. Xander meets Kendra and tries to hit on her. She gets so flustered, it's cute. Giles figures out that the ritual requires that Angel's life be given in order to save Dru. Kendra doesn't like the idea of trying to save Angel but she agrees to help. Buffy is in full on slayer mode now that she knows Angel is danger. A woman in love is nothing to mess with. Can we all take a moment to just be in awe of how amazing it is every time Dru talks? The things she says and the way she says it is just the greatest writing that has ever been put to page. I always love to hear how different the two slayers are. Kendra's parents gave her up to be trained and Kendra believes that Buffy is weak because of her emotions, but Buffy out smarts her and shows her that not only is she not as in control as she thinks but that anger gives her strength. The slayers make Willie talk and tell them where Angel is as Angel tries to get Spike to kill him. It almost works but Dru stops him. Kendra believes that Angel should die and that Buffy is a fool for trying to save him. She is far too by the book. Well maybe Kendra has a point. No sooner does Willie get Buffy alone, than he delivers her to vampires to keep her busy. Meanwhile Spike starts the ritual. Draining Angel's life and giving it to Dru. It takes a while to complete. Willie brings Buffy into the church and Spike is pissed but he can't help but be cocky. All hope seems lost until Kendra breaks in and turns the tide against Spike. Giles and the rest of the Scooby's are right behind her. Cordy and Xander trap the bug man in pant and kill him. Aw you have to love sweet revenge. Buffy stops the ritual which is the only thing that distracts Spike long enough to allow Willie the chance to escape. Which is good because I've always liked him. A fire breaks out at the church and Spike cuts Dru down and tries to run but Buffy stops, knocking him into the wall. It caves in on him as Buffy turns her attention to Angel and Kendra rushes over to help them all escape. It would seem that the slayers work well together. The Scoobies leave Spike and Dru to the fire as they pile out. Willow checks in on Oz and he teachers her about the monkey and his pants. He uses this moment to slip in a complement. They are far too cute together. Xander forces Cordy to talk to him about what happened. At first she doesn't want to but she agrees. They try to figure out what it all means, the conversation doesn't last long before they are once more locking lips. As Buffy says goodbye to Kendra, Kendra drops some knowledge on her. Being the slayer isn't a job, it's who she is. She should embrace it and not fight against it. A lesson that Buffy needed to hear. Now on to the end. Dru is back to full strength and carries an injured Spike out of the ruins. Now from what I have heard, Spike was supposed to die right then and there. But the fans liked him so much Joss decided to keep him around. The best call he ever made if you ask me. After all, who doesn't love Spike? I know I do.

Welcome to one of the most important episodes of the Buffy mythos. Written by Joss Whedon, Marti Noxon and Howard Gordon. Why is important? Oh we will get to that! Believe you me. Or you can watch it yourself!
The episode starts off with the gang doing placement tests to see what kind of jobs they will be best suited for out in the real world. Buffy thinks it is all pointless because all she will ever be is the slayer. She can't have a future, it's a sad moment for fans of the slayer.
Cordy on the other hand is loving the test, loving all the different futures that a rich pretty girl like her could have. Xander and her trade insults, once more showing just how much they hate each other. And I've always said, there is a thin thin line between love and hate. Spike's help can't translate the book they stole from Giles. Dru tries to cheer Spike up but he can't get the slayer out of his head. We can already see the start of his obsession over her. Dru tells them that they need to find a key in order to translate the book, thus sending them on their mission for the episode. While out patrolling Buffy comes across Spike's men looking for the key. She kills one vamp without a problem but the one looking for the key escaped. Good thing to because he has always made me laugh. His name is Dalton. Buffy makes it home to see Angel playing with her stuffed animals. It's kind of cute, in a stalker boyfriend way which isn't that cute but still it's ok because they love each other. Buffy and Angel start talking about how she has no future and Angel is hurt by it all. He feels like he is part of the reason that she can't have a normal life. She tells him that he is the one part of her life that she is sure about. One part of her life that she loves. Angel tells Buffy that he wants to take her to a closed off ice skating rink, as a way to help her feel more normal. It is very romantic. Cordy gets motivational speaker as a career, would anyone go to Cordy for advice? Maybe later years Cordy but not this Cordy. Xander gets crossing guard and Buffy gets law enforcement, kind of makes sense seeing as she is the slayer and that is more or less protecting people. Way more so than the police. For some reason Willow didn't even make the list. Buffy reports to Giles that one of the vampires got away and he seems more worried than normal about it. Buffy points out that she is the only slayer and if he wants someone better for the job than she could just die. This my friends is called foreshadowing and is done oh so well! Dalton starts to translate the book that Spike can use to figure out a cure for Dru. The whole reason they have come to Sunnydale to begin with. Willow and Xander try to cover with Snyder about where Buffy is while she is out with Giles trying to figure out what the vampires stole. Snyder puts both students in their place before storming off. Some mystery man tells Willow to follow them and leads her to a private room where they tell her that she and one other student are to meet with the head of some software company. That other student is none other than. . . Oz!!!!!!!! They meet at last! Buffy and Giles are fighting while walking around the cemetery about how the slayer life is too much for her. She wants a real life and he suggests a career in law enforcement. Wrong thing to say at that moment. She really did not want to hear that! She shows Giles where the Dalton was looking. It turns out that the book that was stolen was written by the same man who grave was robbed. It could only mean that Spike and co found something to translate the book. Ding Ding Ding!!! Giles got it right in one! One by one the assassins Spike ordered show up. Till we arrive on a plane and some girl beats the living daylights out of a guy cleaning the plan. She gets off the plane. Who is this girl? Why is she important? Oh she changes everything about well everything. The scoobies get together as Giles informs them of what was stolen. Buffy skips out on the research so that she can go and make her date with Angel. She a pretty good skater, much better than me. Whenever I get on ice I spend the first 10 minutes or so falling on my ass. One of the assassins attacks Buffy and starts to choke her but Angel comes just in time to save her. Dru sense that one of their assassins were killed. Spike isn't worried, they only need a little time to translate everything. Angel sees the ring on the assassin and freaks out. He orders Buffy home and tells her that he doesn't want her to see him while he is in vamp face. She kisses him and tells him that she didn't even notice. Just than the mystery girl who is important shows up to watch. Kind of creepy right? Buffy shows Giles the ring and he starts to give her the low down on the Order of Taraka, the assassins that are after her. Giles is even more freaked out than Angel. Even snaps at Xander when he tries to joke. He orders Buffy to go and hide till this is over. It gets under her skin. He tells her that they will just keep coming until the job is done. They each work alone. We see the sellsman from earlier who killed that lady across the street from Buffy's house. Turns out he is made of worms. How is that for gross? At school Buffy is on high alert, freaked out by everyone and everything. Even throws Oz against the wall and demands that he tries it. He is confused but just shakes it off and goes about his way. Nothing gets under Oz's skin because he is well Oz. That night Buffy makes it home but doesn't go inside. She feels down and out and can't handle it. Joyce is out of town and no one is answering. Telling Xander and the others that she isn't home. They start to freak out trying to figure out where she could be. Why not just think for a second on where a 16 year old girl would go when she is scared. Her boyfriends house. She gets there and lets herself in but Angel isn't home. She decides to take a nap. Where is Angel? He is over at Willy's bar asking him for information. I love this character. He is so funny and such a weasel. With a name like Willy it just fits. Angel starts beating him for information and demands to know if Spike ordered the hit. This is a nice little taste of what the show Angel will be. The mystery girl saves Willy and starts kicking Angel's ass, locking him in the back room, with a nice window view of the sun, only hours away. The mystery girl tells Angel she is going after Buffy. Giles sends Xander back to Buffy's house, telling him to ask Cordy for a ride. He is worried for Buffy. Meanwhile Willow is asleep in the library dreaming of tadpoles. What a weird weird girl. Don't we all just love her? Giles figures out what Spike is after, just as Dalton gives Spike the cure. Things are going to hell for our gang. Now this part I have issue with. Xander and Cordy are breaking into Buffy's house in the daylight as Angel is locked in a room with the sun about to come up. How does that work? It isn't even early morning, it is clearly day. Cordy tells Xander he is lame and Buffy is the superhero and he points out at least he cares which is more than Cordy could say. He heads up stairs to look for clues while Cordy let's the worm demon inside because he offers her make up supplies. Stupid Cordy. The sun starts to come up as Angel is still locked in the cage and the mystery girl wakes Buffy up as she almost kills her. The two girls fight each other almost to a stand off, bringing the episode to an end as we learn who the mystery girl is. Kendra the Vampire Slayer!!! Told you everything changes in this episode! Come back tomorrow for part two!
Jenny comes up and we learn that Willow is helping her teach a weekend class to help students who are behind. Xander quickly mocks them before learning he is apart of the class. Giles walks Jenny to class where she pretends to have ruined his book. He freaks out. I don't blame him, if it were my comics I would too. Don't fuck with a man's books!
Jenny invites Giles to come over and stay in with her. The man is going to get some! Good on him! Jenny is hot! His good mood is quickly ruined as he makes it to the library where he sees a detective and a few uniform cops. Before he can find out what happened Cordy barges in and starts complaining. Giles yells at her and demands she leaves. I love Cordy so much. She is too funny. Giles identifies the man as an old friend and lies about the tattoo on the guys back. After all he has the same one. That night he doesn't show up and Buffy is alone dealing with the vamps stealing the blood. At least until Angel shows up and jumps into the fight. Together they make short work of the blood suckers, or at least most of them, a few make off in the car. Buffy asks him to make sure the hospital gets the rest of the blood, giving him a look like don't drink any! It's a cute funny moment between the two. She heads to Giles's house and he more or less blows her off. Once she leaves we find out what he is busy doing. He is calling up all his old friends and finding out one by one that they are all dead. The only two people from their group left alive is himself and Ethan Rayne, you all remember him from the Halloween episode. It seems Giles past is coming back with a bang and old Ethan is involved somehow. The dead guy wakes up in the morgue. It doesn't take long for him to kill a doctor and get out of there, off to find the librarian. Buffy goes to talk to Jenny about Giles and Xander makes some jokes about hating Cordy, making what happens in the next few episodes all the more what the hell!!!! Am I the only one who finds the weekend class weird? It is Jenny, Willow helping her and Cordy and Xander needing help. So this whole class is about Cordy and Xander? No one else finds that weird? Anyways, Cordy tells them all about how she saw the police talking to Giles about a murder. Buffy runs to the library to give him a call and comes across none other than Ethan Rayne himself! He tries to knock her out with a bookcase but she dives out of the way and captures him. He doesn't put up much of a fight. Buffy finds out that Ethan and Giles are old friends. He tells her a bit about the past and she calls Giles for more information but is interrupted by the dead guy attacking. Ethan knows him as well, which all makes sense. Whatever shit that Giles got into back when he was Reaper is coming back and hurting all of their lives thanks to Giles. Who starts manhandling Ethan, the badass that Giles use to be and will be again starts to show up for the first time. This is when Giles because a character I love! The dead guy breaks out, knocks out Jenny and gets his ass beat by Buffy. He breaks into water and Ethan runs off. The water touches Jenny just before Giles wakes her up and Cordy blames the whole thing on Saturday school. Can you blame her? Weekend school is evil and should not exist ever! Poor Jenny is possessed and Giles has no idea. Buffy demands answers from Giles who doesn't want her help, he tells her to mind her own business and he storms off, taking Jenny with him. Leaving Buffy to lead the others to find information. She gives everyone a job but for Cordy who then asks for help until she is forced to work with Xander. It's almost as if the two don't like each other. I can't wait for the next episode. Willow finds out that the demon takes control of people who are unconscious and make them feel high. No lie, I dated a girl who swore she use to do that. Let a demon control her body so she could get high. People are weird! Oh and we learn that the demon can also take over the dead. That's important for later. Buffy and Xander figure out that the demon is now in Jenny, who pulls out the phone cords at Giles's place. Oh how this show is dated, remember home phones? I miss those days haha. Jenny wants to mess around with Giles who tries to turn her down because he doesn't want to take advantage of her. She starts talking shit to him. She then starts to manhandle him. Kicking his ass. Giles isn't strong enough to fight this demon, not while she is in Jenny's body. Lucky for him Buffy shows up, kicking in the door and stopping her. Jenny dives out the window all but telling them that she is going after Ethan. Xander and Willow uncover pictures of Giles hardcore past while he tells Buffy about it himself. He tells her all about how one of his friends died while letting this demon inside. It is what made him stop messing around the demon. Buffy won't let him go with him. He is worried that the only way to kill it is to also kill Jenny. Buffy heads to the Halloween costume shop to find Ethan who is there waiting for her. She offers help and instead he knocks her out. She wakes up tied to a table. His idea is to remove his tattoo and give her one of her own. Cordy and Xander get ready to fight when Willow steps up and puts them both in place. She is a G yo! They both back down quick fast and in a hurry. As a joke Xander comes up with the solution. He suggests another dead body and it helps Willow figure everything out. She really is smart. As Ethan removes his tattoo Giles gets a vision of Buffy now having a tattoo. It seems these tattoos connect them all. Ethan wants to run out but Jenny demon gets there first. She starts towards Ethan but then tosses him aside as she goes after Buffy. It would seem his idea works. Jenny is making short work of Buffy when Giles shows up and offers himself in trade. She is about to kill Giles when Angel storms in and starts manhandling Jenny. The demon jumps from Jenny to Angel. We see them fighting for control but in the end Angel wins and the demon dies. Knocking Angel to the floor. It seems the vampire demon was stronger. It's almost a victory, but Ethan is gone and Giles and Jenny have a rocky road to recover in their relationship. Oh and Buffy now has to get a tattoo removed. That sounds expensive and painful. The demands of being the slayer. As the episode come to an end you can't help but feel bad for Giles. He never wanted anything bad to happen to Jenny. He isn't the same man he was back then but it doesn't really matter does it? Everything you do always comes back to bite you in the ass. One way or another.
It's that time again boys and girls. Buffy the Vampire Slayer reviews have returned! And as an added bonus, I'm trying to start the Sunnydale Live Podcast back up as well! So that is exciting!!! Today on Buffy we are talking about the season 2 episode Lie to Me. It's a personally favorite for the simple fact that it brings in Max Evens. Who is Max Evens you ask? Oh and it was written and directed by Joss Whedon, always a plus!!
But, alas, we are not here to talk about Roswell. We are here to talk about the episode Lie to Me, Buffy remember people? She's the Slayer!
There she is! Ok, so this episode starts out at a park late at night, where a little boy is waiting bored for his mother to come pick him up. Why his mother leaves him alone at a park late at night is anyone's guess. I'm just going to throw out that she most likely isn't a good mother. I mean when i was that age I would play at the park by myself too but I had to be home by street lights, not waiting at a creepy park where anyone could just come and take me, or suck my blood as Dru wanted to do when she came across him. Lucky for the kid and his bad mother Angel shows up and stops her. We start to see for the first time that these two know each other, we could kind of figured it out by him knowing Spike but this confirms it.
In true Dru fashion her crazy side just makes us love her even more. It really is the best part about her. It's so off putting but interesting at the same time. You just can't look away. While Angel warns Dru to leave Buffy spots them talking from afar and it clearly gets to her. We feel her pain. The next day at school we spy Giles and Jenny talking. She is teasing him about their next date, of which she will tell him nothing. He tries to get it out of her but she won't budge. Buffy reports to Giles about it being dead on the slaying front and he offers her a night off to hang out with Angel, she doesn't seem thrilled with the idea. Buffy confides in Willow about Angel and the mystery girl, who Buffy doesn't yet know to be Dru, the girlfriend of Spike. Xander is excited by this! Enter Billy Ford, also known to us as Max Evens! Turns out that Buffy and him are old friends and she had a big crush on him back in the day!
Ford comes out to the Bronze and starts to hit it off with the Scoobies when Angel shows up. He lies to Buffy about what he was doing the night before and Buffy blows him off to hang out with Ford. Angel is even more jealous than Xander was. Ford starts asking her about Angel and she tries to avoid the answer. While they are walking Buffy hears an attack and sends Ford on a wild goose chase while she goes to fight. Ford only goes a few feet before turning back and going to see what Buffy was doing. He comes just as the Buffy dusts the vamp. He asks her what is happening and she makes up some lie about cats fighting when Ford tells her he knows she is the vampire slayer.
As Buffy tells Willow the good news we jump over to see Ford enter a weird building, a building where they are welding on a steel door and everyone is dressed up like Vampires from old movies. A guy in a blue cape named Marvin but going by Diego starts asking when everything will happen, Ford tells him he just needs a few more days. Then they will all die young and stay pretty. Pretty sure they want to be vampires. And who else do we meet here? None other than Chanterelle, wait I mean Lilly, or is it Anne? It's the name changing girl! I really like her character, for a bit character that is only in a handful of episodes she sure grows a lot!
Angel shows up at Willow's house and after she invites him in he asks her to help him find out information about Billy Ford. Willow points out he is jealous and Angel admits it. He loves her and is jealous but his gut still tells him that Ford is a bad guy. Willow soon finds out that Ford isn't in the school records. She tells Angel to come back the next night and she will tell him what she finds. He asks her to lie to Buffy, she doesn't want to but agrees.
She is a really bad lair and Buffy calls her out on it but Willow just runs off. Giles gives Buffy Jenny's pager number in case he needs her and Buffy tells him that Ford knows. He is worried she told him but she assures him that Ford found out on his own back in LA. While hanging out Buffy and Ford spot a few vampires running around. She gives Ford a stake and they go off in search. Buffy gets knocked down and Ford spares a vampire in exchange for information, than lies to Buffy about it. Xander, Willow and Dead boy, Xander's new nickname for Angel, head to the night club that Ford hangs out. Right away they feel out of place but they look around anyways, it doesn't take them long to see the pro-vampire atmosphere of the room. Chanterelle tells them that they love the lonely ones, aka vampires. Angel insults her and she runs off. Keep in mind, they met, just right now! Angel has a photographic memory and she met Angel on one of the worst days of her life. Why don't they remember each other when they meet again? I don't know, that's something for another day. Buffy brings Giles and Jenny up to speed, turns out the mystery date was a monster truck show. Not really a Giles type date. Buffy shes a picture of Dru and learns that she is a vampire and lover to Spike, that brings up questions in her mind about Angel. Moments later the vampire Ford lied about killing knocks them over as she runs out with a stolen book. Damn, in two minutes Buffy learns that two guys she likes is lying to her about vampires. Poor girl. Spike confronts Dru about her talking to Angel. He is clearly jealous of him. They start to have a tender moment when Ford enters the room. Spike starts talking about eating him. Ford says he has something to offer him but Spike doesn't seem to care. It's a game to Ford and Spike could care less but pays along because Dru asks him to. He asks Spike to make him a vampire but Spike says no. This is when Ford offers to give him the slayer in exchange for making him a vampire. What an asshole! Angel shows up at Buffy's house and asks to talk, he wants to talk about Ford, he admits that he has been working with Willow and Xander to find out about Ford, Buffy isn't happy about it and demands to know about Dru. He tells her the truth is hard to hear and asks if she loves him. She says yes but she doesn't know if she trust him. He starts to tell her that Dru was the worst thing he has ever done. She was sweet and innocent and he drove her insane and mentally tortured her until she fled to become a nun. On the day she was to become one he turned her into a vampire. Buffy seems sickened by it, Angel then tells her about Ford. The next day at school Ford asks Buffy out and she says yes. He has a surprise for her and she says she likes surprises. Things are getting intense. Willow and Xander try to talk to Buffy but she is kind of short with them, not rude but not friendly. Rightfully so she is a bit annoyed. Diego and Chanterelle ask Ford if everything is ready. He tells them everything will be fine and that is when he finds out that Angel and co showed up there. Ford is worried but before he could think Buffy shows up early. It doesn't take long for Buffy to figure out that Ford offered her up as a trade to become a vampire. He starts laughing as Diego locks the door. He tells her the trap has already been set. Buffy is worried about everyone there but they don't see what her problem is. They want to be vampires and refuse to listen to her. The sun sets and any hope of escape is gone. Spike and Dru get their men ready to head off to collect the slayer. Ford admits to Buffy that the rest of them will die, he is the only one who will be changed. She tells him that when he becomes a vampire it won't be him anymore. He says it's better than nothing. He only has 6 months left before he dies. He has tumors that are killing him. She feels bad for him but stands by that it doesn't justify what he is doing. He tells her he has no idea what it feels like to be him. He has no choice. She points out he has a choice, it is a shitty choice but still a choice. She threatens to kill him herself and he tells her that he really did miss her just as Spike and co pull up. Ford knocks her down the stairs as Spike and his men enter the room. Spike starts to feed on Chanterelle as Buffy fights Ford. She forgets all about him when she spots Dru. She jumps up there and puts a stake to Dru's heart. She tells Spike to let everyone go or she will kill Dru. Spike listens. Chanterelle and the others flee. Buffy throws Dru down the stairs and takes off, closing the door behind her, locking spike and the others behind. Buffy tells them they can come back later for the body. Turns out that Ford is the only one left in there with the vampires. He points out to Spike that he held up his end and still wants his reward. Buffy retrieves the body and visits the grave the next day with Giles. She tells Giles that she wants to hate him but can't bring herself to. Life is too complicated, Giles points out that is what growing up is all about. Ford comes back as a vampire and Buffy slays him, not even interrupting their conversation. Buffy asks Giles to lie to her about life and he tells her things are simple and life gets better. It is a great episode written by the man himself, but don't take my word for it. Go watch it!
At school the next day Buffy, Willow and Xander get blind sided by Snyder who makes them take kids out trick or treating. That man doesn't have near as much power as he thinks he does but for some reason people just let him get away with whatever he wants to. Maybe it is the antiauthority in me but I wouldn't put up with that shit.
A little later Xander gets pushed around by the school bully Larry and is saved at the last minute by Buffy. Something that bothers him a great deal, and earns her a nifty free coke from the machine after she slams him into it. People seem to get pissed off at Xander for this but I don't think that is fair. When you get picked on and someone else helps you it tends to make it worse. You can't protect someone all the time and when they are alone they get punished for having help. I've been there and can relate to him on that front. Besides, Buffy hurt his pride, she didn't mean to but he is a guy and guys are sensitive, no matter how hard we try to act like we aren't. Buffy can't stop thinking about what kind of girls Angel use to date and Willow suggest that they look at the old watcher diaries. Giles is in the library but Buffy distracts him by telling him that Jenny Calendar was talking about how hot he was. Giles's face turned bright red as Willow stole the book they needed. In a nearby restroom Buffy and Willow started looking at the girls in Angel's life. They all looks like fancy ladies, something that Buffy wasn't. It made her feel even worse, something that wasn't helped with Cordy walked in talking about how Angel and her hit it off the night before. Buffy and Willow let it slip that Angel is a vampire but Cordy doesn't believe them. At the new costume shop Buffy and Xander patch things up and Buffy forces Willow to buy a slutty costume instead of a lame ghost one. Spoiler alert, she gets both. We finally meet Ethan Rayne, a character I've always liked a great deal, who gives Buffy a deal on a fancy dress like the ones the women in Angel's life. At the Summer's home Buffy looks every bit the Lady in her fancy dress and Willow looks sexy in her outfit. Xander shows up looking like a solider. When Willow comes downstairs she is wearing the lame ghost outfit. If she really wanted Xander's attention, she should have stayed in the first outfit. As the Scoobies pick up their kids Xander gets punked around again by Larry. Poor guy. Cordy is wearing a cat costume that she didn't buy at the same place as the others and demands to know if Oz and his band are playing because she wants to see her boyfriend. Oz runs into Willow, not knowing it is her in that sheet. They keep circling each other. Ethan starts chanting a spell as the night goes on. Turning everyone into whatever their costumes were. Thus breaking the no supernatural stuff on Halloween rule. Willow dies and becomes a ghost, Buffy becomes a lady and Xander a solider. Willow is stuck in the slutty outfit now that she is a ghost and tracks down a Xander that can't remember her. He and everyone else is stuck in their new personalities while Willow is the only one who seems to recall who she is. Buffy faints at the sight of demons, this Lady is no slayer. Welcome to Willow's episode of self-empowerment. Willow leads them to Buffy's house, lucky Joyce isn't home. Buffy sees pictures of herself and freaks out. Willow makes a Xena refrence which is really cool and fun. Meanwhile Xander goes out and saves Cordy, who is still Cordy. You have to love the writing in Buffy, everything is so witty and insightful. The writing on this show is artful and I wish I was half as good as these people. Angel shows up at the house just after Willow went to track down Giles. This new Buffy sees Angel's vampire face and freaks out, running out of the house. Willow and Giles put together that only people who got their costumes at a place called Ethan's changed. Giles's face tells you that he knows something is up. They go to the place to check it out. Spike finds out that Buffy isn't herself and goes out to try and kill her. Two Halloween episodes later he gets mad at Vampires who go out on Halloween as breaking tradition, something he is doing right now. Damn Spike, you are better than that. Giles and Ethan come face to face and Giles makes Willow leave as we hear the name Ripper for the first time. Goodbye stuffy bookworm and hello badass. This is the Giles we all know and love. Buffy tells Cordy that Angel is a vampire and she still doesn't believe it. You would think that it not really being Buffy and her still saying it would mean something to her but I guess not. Xander beats up Larry, though neither one is really themselves at the moment. The victory is short lived as Spike and his men come for them and force them to run. As Ethan and Giles face off we learn about Giles back story and how he use to be a bad man. We even see him beat the shit out of Ethan, very cool to see. Xander and the others are stuck as Spike leads an army of demons after them. It is not looking good for them as Giles beats a counter spell out of Ethan. Spike starts slapping Buffy around, getting ready to go for a kill when Ethan finally cracks and tells Giles to break the statue. He does it and the spell breaks, turning the demons into little kids and Buffy back to the slayer. The fight quickly turns bad for Spike who is forced to cut and run. Ethan is gone and Giles finds no trace of him. Angel and Buffy walk off and Cordy is annoyed, Xander tells her to give it up. She has no chance. How wrong he is. Willow wakes up back in her body and throws away the ghost costume. She has her confidence back. Oz drives by just then and can't help but notice her. How could he not? Angel tells Buffy that he loves her for her. She doesn't need to try and be something else. He never liked those types of girls anyway. Giles goes to the shop and finds nothing but a note for him telling him that Ethan will be back. The bastard. This is a great fun episode, setting up a lot of what is to come and a great example of what makes this show so great. The wit, the characters, the growth. I mean, just look at how Willow and Buffy felt so insecure at the start and feel more at ease in their own skin at the end. It's that type of stuff that make this one of the greatest shows ever made.
Welcome to another episode written by the great David Greenwalt. It starts off with the trio of Scoobies watching a Bollywood film and trying to figure out the plot while a lone girl runs from a group of men in cloaks dressed up like monks. Is there any wonder why I love this show so?
Cordy practices laughing to impress a guy while Buffy and Willow walk and talk of guys, or well undead guys. Well one undead guy by the name of Angel. Cordy talks down on Xander, how he is beneath her and she only dates grown men. So why do they end up dating in a few episodes time? Oh Cordy, if only you knew what the future has to hold. Giles tries to make Buffy see how important it is for her to keep training more and more. If things are a bit slow around the hellmouth right now that is no reason to let up her work. It is time for her to work harder and get ready for whatever happens next. He tries to make her see how she has a purpose and that makes her special but she points out what again that she wants a nice normal life and none of this. She blows off the library as she is prone to do after school and meets up with Willow and Xander. Meanwhile Cordy practices her fake laugh and oh can you tell it is fake. Her college boyfriend has a friend who takes an intrest in Buffy and Cordy forces her to go and talk to him while Xander once more lets out his jealous side. Buffy isn't impressed by them, at least not until one of them starts to be all charming and what not and Buffy can't help but smile. He warmed his way into her heart. Buffy still turns the man down just as Giles calls her to train. He is not happy. She runs after him as Xander and Willow look on, wishing they had money and cars like those guys. Buffy finds a bracelet on the ground and Angel pops up out of nowhere. We see how much the two of them care about each other but Angel pushes her way. Telling her that it would be too hard for the two of them to be together. It would only cause them pain so Buffy storms off. The next day at school Cordy asks Buffy to go with her to the college party and Buffy says yes in order to get over how Angel treated her. Turns out the college kids are doing demon sacrifices underneath their fraternity. Xander tries to get Buffy put on patrol duty but she lies and tells Giles that her mother is sick and she can't go. Willow lectures her about the party and how it isn't good for her to go but Buffy doesn't want to hear it. She just wants to have fun, tho Cordy tells her that this isn't about fun, it is about helping Cordy find her place in the world. Xander decides to go to the party as well, in case there is an orgy. Cordy and Buffy make it to the party and Cordy still doesn't know how to drive. She can't park worth a damn, almost as bad as me. Almost the second they make it inside Cordy ditches Buffy and runs off with some guy, leaving Buffy standing alone against the back wall. Poor girl. A drunk guy tries to get a hold of Buffy but the guy who swept her off her feet at school shows up and asks her to dance at the last minute. After the dance she goes outside, if she had stayed inside she would have seen Xander carried off. The guy she was dancing with comes outside and finds her. The guy Cordy was with shows up and gives them each a drink. Buffy throws caution to the wind and takes a drink. Meanwhile Willow and Giles figure out that the bracelet went to a girl at the same school as the party. Xander is forced to wear makeup and wig as he dances for everyone, Buffy walks upstairs way too drunk off of one drink. She was drugged!! The creepy guy who was with Cordy walks in just as Buffy passes out on the bed, giving you a sick feeling in your gut like he is going to do something evil to her. Lucky the guy Buffy was with shows up and saves her, or well saves her from rape so that he can sacrifice her. Turns out that Cordy is knocked out right next to the bed. Willow and Giles find out that there are a lot of people missing and it is a year to the day that they went missing. Xander gets kicked out of the party, still in his wig and bra while Cordy and Buffy are tied up down stairs along with the girl who tried to escape earlier. Buffy's date is their leader and Cordy blames Buffy for everything. Giles and Angel try to figure out what to do with the information they have while Willow asks the important questions, how does Angel shave? Angel and Giles ignore her question and head to the fraternity but Willow cracks and tells them everything. Buffy's date starts saying a weird prayer and a snake demon comes out of the ground. His only goal is to eat the girls. Xander is in a robe and sneaks up on Angel, Giles and Willow who notices right away that Xander is still wearing makeup. Angel and Xander start fighting the guys upstairs while the snake goes after Cordy. Now how did Angel get in? Is it because it isn't a real house or what? Always confused me. Buffy breaks free and Willow cries out for a sword to help Buffy. Xander starts talking his problems out on one of the guys who made him wear lipstick. Buffy beats up her date and saves Cordy in the nick of time by killing the snake. Cordy thanks Angel for saving her instead of Buffy who is the one who saved her. Everyone heads upstairs but for Buffy and Giles. She apologizes and he surprises her by doing the same. It's a real growing moment for the two of them. Very sweet. The episode ends in one of the best ways possible. Jonathan is on a date with Cordy. Aw, how sweet!!! Oh and everyone from the fraternity, going back decades start losing everything. Seems Buffy messed up everything for them. Angel shows up at the Bronze to talk to Buffy and asks her for coffee. God i love this show!
I know that I have been away for some time. Things have gotten crazy around here, that is the truth my friends out there in the Blueroof nation. But I have not forgotten you or the many tasks I have set out for us. Most of my time has gone towards the Christmas Horror movie that I'm writing but I'm back and the goal is to be daily as I was when I started.
The episode we come back on is a favorite if for no other reason than it allows us to meet Jonathan, the man who would one day bring us Empire, such a great show!
As the episode starts out we learn that the school is having a foreign exchange program where students from Sunnydale High are having people from all over the world come to stay with them for awhile. Buffy is against it right off the bat but Xander thinks it sounds fun, at least until he finds out that it is going to be a man staying with Buffy. Then Xander goes away and Jealous Xander from episode one returns. Oh didn't we miss him so?
The students are on a field trip to an old museum where we see a mummy looking all mummified and also meet the school bully who Willow seems to be friends with. Over the high school years we see how Willow always befriends the assholes, they like her because she helps them pass their classes. The bully tries to steal a seal off the mummy but it brings her to life and she wastes no time in killing him. Giles doesn't want Buffy to go to the school dance, he feels that it will distract her but she forces the subject till he agrees. Xander asks Buffy to go to the dance with him and Willow so that it isn't a date, Willow walks in unheard by the two of them as Buffy asks if Xander thinks about Willow sexually and he says no. Willow is hurt but plays like she didn't hear him. She tells them the bully is missing and Xander jokes that he woke the mummy. They go to check on the mummy and find the seal broken. They are about to leave when they are attacked by a mystery man. He takes off as quickly as he showed up. Willow notices that the mummy has braces. They now know that mummy killed the bully and left him for dead. Buffy goes to find her new exchange student. He is alone at the bus stop as a girl voice calls out to him, a scary looking mummy girl pops up out of nowhere and kisses him. A beautiful walks out when the Scoobies arrive and Xander is smitten the second he sees her. None of them question the fact that the boy is a girl. Well but for Willow who is jealous of how Xander looks at her. Xander is a bit of a racist. Talking to her like a stupid child when she clearly talks English just fine. the two of them hit it off swell. After Willow and Xander leave Buffy and the mummy start to bond. Buffy suspects nothing and the mummy seems very excited to be here in this new place. she wants nothing more than to fit in. The mystery man is standing outside the window watching them. Cordy doesn't like the exchange student that she was stuck with but lucky she is dating the singer of a band. What band? It is called Dingoes ate my Baby, the lead guitar is none other than Oz!!!! We finally meet one of the coolest characters in the buffyverse, the soon to be werewolf who steals Willow's heart and then breaks it. Giles asks the mummy to translate the seal and she tells him it has something to do with bodyguards. Buffy has to stay to help Giles so she tries to ask Willow to hang out with the mummy but Xander breaks in and takes the mummy away. Willow is heartbroken. Xander and the mummy hit it off and flirt hardcore up on the bleachers. Giles figures out that the mummy steals the life force of people right as Xander the mummy are attacked by the mystery man. They go back to the library and she begs them to destroy it but the mummy freaks out and storms out. Xander tries to cheer her up but it isn't working. Willow tells her to take the mummy to the dance as a date. Xander tells her that she is his best friend. Xander asks her out and she agrees, he then checks to make sure she isn't a bug, hey he is close. While in the restroom the mummy kisses the mystery man and steals his life force. Afterward she looks older but no one on the show notices, maybe its just me. She also says that she is in love with Xander, aw yay! Xander found love with yet another demon. Or close to it. The mummy tells Buffy not to unpack her stuff, she doesn't want Buffy to see that the stuff belongs to a man, lucky for the mummy Xander shows up at the door just then. Xander is dressed up as a cowboy. Buffy is shocked Willow isn't there but there is no denying how much the two like each other. The great part of this episode is how both Buffy and the mummy were called to great important tasks when all they wanted to do was live normal lives. Buffy sacrifices her normal life for the greater good while the mummy tries to sacrifice others for her normal life. We see how different the two of them all despite being the same. At the dance we see the beautiful Cordelia Chase in her sexy outfit and Willow dressed as an eskimo.
The mummy is about to kill Willow when Xander stops her, he tells her the only one she can kill is him and she tries but it has been too long and she turns to dust. The day is saved and no one feels like they have one. Buffy tries to relate to what the mummy went through but Xander points out how Buffy isn't like her, Buffy is a hero.
Such a great episode!! But don't take my word on it, go watch it yourself! The episode we have all been waiting for. Spike has arrived in this episode written by the one and only David Greenwalt. Now I know we have dealt with him a few times already but those were all made after the fact just take place first. This episode is the first time Spike showed up. It is his first appearance. How great is it that I get to watch and write this one on my birthday? That is great luck! The episode starts off with Snyder beating his chest in front of Buffy and a girl who seems to be even more trouble than Buffy. This girl stabbed someone and is being treated like she is in the same league as Buffy. Snyder put the two of them in charge of Parent teacher night. If they don't make it perfect one or both of them will be expelled. Yet another example of the expelled word being thrown around. Buffy fills the Scoobies in on what Snyder is making them do and they fill her in on all the bad stuff the other girl has done. Xander jinxes her by mistake by saying that nothing bad will happen. Cut to the scene we have all been waiting for! A black car runs over the welcome to Sunnydale sign and a man in a long black overcoat gets out. He lights up a cigarette and says home sweet home. Who is this man you ask? he is Spike!!!!! The one and only yo. The Anointed one is holding court looking for a replacement to lead their vampire religion. One man says he was at the crucifixion and Spike laughs saying that would make it Woodstock. Turns out Spike was at Woodstock. He moves into the warehouse and says he will lead the vampires on their religious day that makes their kind stronger. He also points out that he killed two slayers in his time. He is about to get into it when Drusilla walks in. Spike changes his whole mood when she enters. Fun fact, I'm friends with the actress who plays her on Facebook. Just thought that was cool. Oh and about Spike. . . How cool is that? I have his and Cordy's autograph. I want to try and get them all. Anyways back to the story. Joyce tells Buffy that she got a note in the mail telling her about the parent teacher meeting. She also tells Buffy that if she isn't doing good in school than she will never leave the house again. She tries to act like a good mother by telling her that school isn't everything and she will love her no matter what. She then follows it up blaming her for them being there and telling her that she doesn't want to be disappointed in her yet again. Can I just say I hate Joyce. Hate Joyce.
The next day Willow helps Buffy makes the flyers since the other girl doesn't show up. She is under so much stress so enter Giles and Jenny with information about the vampire holy day that makes them stronger than ever. Giles tells her this is more important but she points out she can't get kicked out of school. Willow and Xander offer to help take the weight off of Buffy's shoulders. Snyder shows up so Giles and Jenny take off. He says that Xander and Willow better not be helping her in the other girls place but they cover for her. Just as she shows up. Willow is helping Buffy study at the Bronze while Xander talks them into dancing. Spike shows up and watches them. You can see on Spike's face the attraction that he has for Buffy. It is all seen right here in their first meeting. The romance that would change his unlife for all time. He then sets up his fellow vampire so he can watch Buffy fight and introduce himself. The bad girl is captured by Spike while leaving a bar. The Scoobies all meet up in the library, Angel too and he tells them how dangerous Spike is. Meanwhile Dru talks to her dolls when Spike shows up with the bad girl to feed her. They talk briefly about what happened in Prague and how it almost killed Dru. It is the reason they came here to the hellmouth. The Scoobies, along with Cordy who is almost one of them are getting weapons ready for as Buffy stresses about making punch for the parent teacher meeting that night. Willow follows her and we learn that Buffy can't even make punch right. Joyce shows up early and Buffy sends Willow to keep her busy and away from Snyder. It almost works but at the end of the night Snyder catches up with Joyce and everything comes to a screaming end for the slayer. Giles learns that Spike is also known as William the Bloody. He also informs the others about how Spike has killed two slayers in the past 100 years. Joyce demands Buffy get in the car, she sounds pissed. So cue Spike and the other vampires breaking into the school to kill Buffy. The good news is they are early so they don't have the extra power. The bad news, there are a lot of people they can kill. Everyone splits up, Buffy leads a group including her mother and Snyder into a classroom while Giles and the other Scoobies end up in the library and Willow and Cordy end up in a closet. The vampires have no idea where Buffy went and Spike is not happy. The phones have been cut so they can't call any help. Giles sends Xander to go find Angel to help. Meanwhile Snyder says the vampires must just be some kind of gang. Buffy tries to keep everyone in the room safe but Snyder doesn't want to listen to her. Joyce tells Buffy she can't go out there but Buffy goes into the roof instead. Now what mom would let her even do that? Spike starts walking around the school calling out for the slayer telling her that he is going to kill her friends. He almost finds Willow and Cordy when he hears Buffy in the roof. Giles starts to unblock the library doors so he can find Buffy and Jenny tries to stop him. Lucky Buffy drops from the roof before he does it. She tells him that she is going to kill the vampires in the hall and when she does she wants him to get her mother and the others out to safety. Snyder and Joyce start getting into it. Some other parent tries to escape and it costs him his life. Spike breaks out the fire ax to help one of the vampires break into the classrooms. Angel pretends to take Xander as a snack to give to Spike. Buffy kills the vampire with the ax just before he breaks into the room with Joyce. Who doesn't even question it when the man who was cutting the door down is gone and replaced with her daughter. Joyce looking through the hole looks a lot like the dream from the last episode of season 4, I never noticed that before. Buffy finds the bad girl who picks up the ax and follows her to help out. Angel gives Spike Xander and they joke around about Buffy before getting ready to eat Xander. We then learn the bad girl is a vampire, something we should have known since she was last seen as food for Dru. Buffy kills the other vampires and she runs. She lets her mother out who then runs with Giles. She lets Buffy stay, bad bad mother. Very bad mother. Spike tells Angel he hasn't seen him out and about in a long time. Now see why I have issue with the first issue of Spike and Dracula? In that he learns about the curse, here he doesn't. You want another mistake, he also calls Angel his sire, when in fact Dru is his sire and Angel sired her. Spike attacks Angel who takes off with Xander and Buffy comes with the ax to fight Spike. The fight that we have been waiting for since the Bronze. It is a good fight between the two, while Angel and Xander fight others outside and Giles leads everyone else to safety. Joyce finally starts to think about her daughter just as Spike gets the upper hand and starts kicking Buffy's ass. He almost kills her till Joyce smacks him with the ax. Spike takes off and Joyce saves her daughter's life. I still don't like her. At all! The rest of the vampires flee and we learn that Snyder knows about vampire, he also pretends that he tried to stop the man who ran out of the school. Something isn't right there. Xander questions Angel about being Spike's sire but he doesn't answer just takes off. Joyce tells Buffy that she loves her and is glad that she can take care of herself. Willow and Cordy are still hiding thinking that the vampires are right outside. Back at the warehouse Spike offers an apologize for messing up the holy day but the vampires want his head. So he does want any kickass vampire would do, he kills the anointed one and takes over. Got to love Spike, how could you not? Also Happy Birthday to me! Welcome to the Frankenstein episode of Buffy written by Ty King. The episode starts off with a morbid tale of Angel waking up buried alive. He lets onto Buffy that he is jealous of Xander, he says he isn't but it is clear as day that he is. Their argument is interrupted by the vampire that Buffy came to slay. And slay she does. The second he is dust the fight starts back. Angel storms off and Buffy goes after him falling into an open grave. Angel says another vampire has risen. Now, as stated above, Angel dug his way out of a grave. Wouldn't he know how a grave that a vampire escaped from would look? Why is Buffy the one to figure out that some one dug it up and dragged the body away. Angel, as a vampire should have picked up on that.
The next day Buffy and Xander walk in on Giles asking a chair out. They give Giles a really hard time about liking Jenny, it's pretty funny. And jealous Xander from season one pops up once again. Oh how I missed him! It is nice to see that Xander and Angel are both jealous of each other. Willow is asked to check out some girls legs by her friend Chris's weird friend. She says no thank you, in a few years she would prolly be a lot more ok with it. Cordy reluctantly signs up for the science fair for extra credit. Chris and his friend talk about Cordy being perfect but Chris says that she doesn't work because she is alive. In the library we learn that Cordy had something going on with Chris's older brother. We also learn that the girl who was dug up was one of 3 girls who died in a car crash. They invite Cordy to help dig up the other graves to see if they were all stolen to become zombies but she says no. It was almost her entrance into the Scooby Gang but alas she turned it down. At the graves Giles and Xander dig up the graves while Buffy and Willow gossip. Now Buffy is the strongest one there, couldn't she help out a bit? But we learn some important information during this scene. We learn that Chris's older brother was died. Buffy jumps down and opens the coffin. Back at school someone or something is following Cordy. She gets freaked out. She runs for her car and blames Xander like he would waste his time stalking her. She drops her keys and sees someone coming towards her, she takes off running and hides in a dumpster. It turns out it was Angel. He is hurt that Buffy is at the graveyard and not at home, but that is changed when Cordy starts screaming. The Scoobies come into the library where they see Cordy and Angel waiting. We learn all 3 girls bodies are missing. Turns out that parts of the bodies are in the dumpster that Cordy was hiding in. It throws out all the ideas they have. Buffy suspects that it was a student but Angel says that it looked like a professional. Willow says a couple of the people at school could do it. Xander and Cordy have playful banter that sets up their romance just perfectly. Angel talks Cordy home, setting up their romance beautifully. Although we have to wait years and years for that. Chris leaves his house where his mom is just sitting watching old home videos of his brother playing football. How sad. You can't help but feel bad for Chris. The Scoobies look throw the lockers and figure out that Chris and his friend are behind all of this. We jump to a lab where the two of them are putting a woman's body together. The friend has pictures of Buffy, Willow and Cordy. He wants to use one of them to finish the project. The trio of Scoobies walk up on Giles as he waits all awkward on Jenny. Buffy gives some advice before they take off leaving Giles alone. He tries to ask her out but can't seem to spit it out. She interrupts him that she has to go to class. She then darts back out and invites him to the football game that night. He says yes. She even asks him out to Mexican food, the same thing Buffy told Giles to ask her out to. It's very sweet. I like Giles in love. Everyone should find love in their lives. Uh where is mine? The Scoobies find out that Chris and his friend are still missing a head. They need to find a fresh corpse or kill one. Meanwhile Chris's friend tells him that if they don't find a head soon they will lose the body. Chris doesn't want to kill anyone but his friend keeps pushing it. We then learn that this girl isn't for them, it is for Chris's brother, you know the dead one? Yeah they brought him back to life. He talks Chris into agreeing to kill a girl. The man picks Cordy, after all they did use to date. Giles takes off before helping the Scooby Gang so that he can go meet up with Jenny for their date. Buffy goes to Chris's house to look for him and finds only his mother watching the tapes still. The mother could care less about Chris. She only has eyes for her dead son. Buffy starts to feel bad for Chris, something that she didn't feel a few moments before. Buffy goes downstairs and finds the plans showing Cordy's head on the body. She is almost attacked by the monster but she leaves before he can get her. At school before the big game Chris and his friend kidnap Cordy. Buffy finds Cordy and saves her from Chris's friend. Cordy runs off to go cheer, leaving Buffy alone. She hears someone in the locker room. She goes looking for him and tries to talk Chris out of this. Chris starts to tell her why he is doing this, at first she thinks he is talking about his friend but she soon figures out that he brought his brother back. His brother goes crazy when the friend tells him what happened. Chris and Buffy find out that the brother has left the house. They run back to school, fearing the worst. Meanwhile Giles insults football to Jenny, not meaning any offense and she asks if that is how he handles every first date. He is excited to learn it is a date. Willow and Xander sit with them and Giles is beyond annoyed. Jenny finds it a bit funny. Cordy wakes up just in time to see the brother and friend getting ready to cut off her head and put it on the other body. Chris caves in and tells Buffy where they are. She sends him to get Willow and Xander while she goes to save Cordy. Cordy tells the brother she will date him anyways. She doesn't need the other body. He tells her that he needs her to be a freak like him so that she will stay loyal to him. Buffy shows up just in time. A fight breaks out, during which gas falls everywhere. As the fire spreads and the fight kicks into high gear Xander shows up and frees Cordy. Giles and Willow get Chris's friend out of the lab. Chris shows up and yells for his brother to stop. He lets go of Buffy and runs into the fire to be with the body they made for his wife. Angel shows up at the end of everything, not able to do a damn thing because he was late!!! Jenny asks Giles out on a second date. I'm happy for them! Meanwhile Xander tells Willow that he will never find a girl to date, Cordy picks this moment to walk up to him and try and thank him. He insults her and sends her away. It was almost the start of their relationship. A relationship that I am a big big fan of. I loved the two of them together. In the graveyard Angel and Buffy talk about their relationship and what it could be. It is a sweet ending to a crazy episode that couldn't be more Frankenstein if it tried. Right down to the fire. It's perfect. Now let's all get some rest so we can get to tomorrow's episode! Because . . . . Spike!!!!!!!!!! Buffy is back at the tail end of her summer after spending some father daughter time out in LA. The exciting season 2 starts off in this story written by Joss Whedon himself.
The episode starts off with Willow and Xander throwing movie quotes at each other until they start to get bored. Xander misses the excitement of fighting the undead as well as seeing Buffy who neither one of them have really seen or heard from since she left to LA to stay with her father. Xander starts to flirt with Willow and she is loving it. Setting the first tease of attraction that will ruin them both next season. Their almost kiss is interrupted by a vampire, who in turn has his dinner interrupted by Buffy herself. Seems the slayer has returned to Sunnydale at long last. The trio or Scoobies are glad to be reunited. Seems that LA was good to Buffy. No undead or anything while she was gone. Since Buffy came back he forgot all about Willow. They tell the slayer about where they buried the Master's body. Hank and Joyce talk about Buffy and how she was in LA. It seems she was acting weird over. Distant, almost as if something was on her mind, like the fact that she died maybe? Cordy is back in Sunnydale after a vacation as well and is already holding court with her lackeys. Snyder tells Giles that teenagers are useless, the second a pretty girl walks by they lose the ability to concentrate or even talk. Just then Jenny walks up and Giles proves it isn't just teenage boys but rather adults as well. The Scoobies all meet up in the hallway, Jenny now part of the group, and we learn that just because the hellmouth is closed doesn't mean the energy isn't still calling demons to Sunnydale. Giles starts Buffy's training back up, she isn't right. There is an anger in her that is worrisome to Giles. The Anointed one is still in town. A preacher vampire is now running things in his name. These damn religious vampires and all their vampire bible talk. Willow and Xander go and find Buffy sitting alone, they join her and try to cheer her up when Giles shows up and starts kicking her ass, choking the life out of her while Willow and Xander watch on. She pulls of Giles face and shows him to be the Master. It's all a dream, one that she is glad to wake up from. Sitting in her room is Angel. Seems he has heard that she is back in town. The two of them get into a fight quickly once he starts talking about work and she attacks him. Verbally not with the real fighting but still. He takes off but not before telling her that he missed her. She tries to say it back but he is already gone. Joyce tries to connect with Buffy but she will have none of it. Willow and Xander can't really get through to Buffy either but they don't seem to understand that she is going through a hard time. Cordy is being all nice to them. Seems that fighting the forces of evil has had an effect on her. They make sure that she hasn't been telling people about what happened. She tells them that her secret is safe and Buffy throws out a pretty good insult. It's the first time Willow and Xander see that something is wrong with her. Xander doesn't want to hear it when Willow tries to point out how messed up Buffy is acting. She puts cream on her nose, the same way Xander did when he almost kissed her but this time he doesn't try, he just tells her to clean herself off. Poor Willow. The preacher vampire orders his lackeys to dig up the Master. Meanwhile back at the Bronze Buffy shows up and tells Angel that she has moved on before asking Xander to dance and goes all seductive mode on him. She asks him if she has thanked him for saving her and if he wises she would before taking off. You want to feel bad for Xander because it was brutal but at the same time he was just a jerk to Willow so I guess it's karma right? Cordy catches up with Buffy outside and tries to talk her into stop being such a bitch but Buffy doesn't want to listen. She is could care less what Cordy has to say. Even less so when Cordy starts to speak the truth to her. Buffy storms off just as Cordy is kidnapped by the preacher's vampires. Buffy finds out that the Master's bones were stolen. Willow and Xander think that Buffy is possessed but Giles isn't sure. He starts to tell them what he thinks is wrong with Buffy when she shows up and Xander warns him off. Buffy confronts them about the Master's bones being stolen to bring him back to life. She blames Giles for all of this. She then tells Willow to shut up but Xander jumps to her aid. Only before Buffy could say anything Snyder shows up and sends the trio running off. Snyder says that he just knows Buffy will be expelled before the year is out. And you know what? He is right!!!! The Scoobies gather and Giles tells them that they need the person closes to the Master to bring him back. Buffy thinks that they mean her. The vampires throw in a note that shows them that they have Cordy. Buffy fires the other Scoobies and goes it alone. Telling them that she doesn't need them. Willow is pissed that Buffy is acting like this but there is nothing she can do. Angel follows Buffy and she makes it clear she doesn't want him around either. She even tries to fight him. Buffy, alone, enters the Bronze to look for the vampires who have Cordy and instead finds just one vamp pretending to be Cordy. Angel shows up anyways. He tells Buffy something isn't right, this is the bait but not the hook. Buffy still doesn't get it. Back at the library, Giles figures out that the vampires need the people who were in the room with the Master when he died, that would be Jenny, Willow, Cordy and Giles. Buffy rushes back to the library to find Xander beat up. He tells Buffy that all of this is her fault and if anything happened to Willow he will kill her. She asks why he was left behind when the others weren't. She takes Xander with her back to the Bronze where they torture the vampire pretending to be Cordy till she tells her everything she wants to know. The vampires are getting ready to do the spell when Buffy, Angel and Xander show up. She tells the guys to save their friends while she goes to fight the vampires. The fight starts and Buffy is taking all her problems out on these blood suckers. Angel joins the fight as Xander gets the others down. Giles and Jenny wake up in time to see Buffy going crazy. It comes down to Buffy and the preacher, well the preacher and his hammer. She burns him to death without even trying. It was too easy but his death seemed to snap something in her. She picks up the hammer and smashes up the Master's bones. Angel holds her once she is done. He knows what she is going through and wants to help her. Giles looks up, feeling helpless as any father would when seeing their daughter hurt. Giles tells Buffy that she needs to patch things up with her friends. That they will understand and accept her. She doesn't see how that will happen. She was horrible to them but they prove Giles right. They take her back with open arms. The Scoobies are back!!! The Anointed one survived the attack. |
