I gotta ask, when did we decide as a people that machines were better equipped to handle every aspect of our lives? Was this something that people were asking for? Waiting for?
It seems to me, that every time I get on the phone with customer service anymore, they have no way of helping me. The computers are handling bank transactions, they are handling the updating of licenses, they are handling everything under the sun and all we can do is hold on and wait. But why? What purpose does it serve to lock humans out of the process? "Sir, I can see your deposit, but I can't help you access the funds. The computer will release it when it is in the mood." In the mood? It's a program. 1s and 0s, nothing more. Override the computer and do your job. It used to be that computers were there to answer questions so as to not waste the employees time, now employees are there to answer questions so we don't bother our machine overlords. I don't understand this world we are living in anymore. Just because something is faster, doesn't mean it's better. You would think people would start to understand that once they get tired of getting a new phone, laptop, whatever every few months. Everything in our society is designed to fail, to last just long enough to milk us of our money, before giving out and demanding more money to replace it. Meanwhile, I have an iron in my house that is over 150 years old and still works. Don't we miss those days? Don't we want to build things to stand the test of time? Not make a quick buck and then be forgotten? Or am I alone?
