When I first started out writing I would just write until I felt a story was finished. No outline, no worry about structure. As I got older and started reading more how to guides and taking classes I was told over and over that outlines were a must. Somehow writing became less fun, more of a chore. I'm debating if I should go back to free form and toss outlines out. I mean even when I free form I have a loose idea of where I am headed with the story, just not how to get there beat by beat.
Stephen King of all people says he doesn't work with an outline. Quentin Tarantino says he only figures his stories out to the middle before starting on his journey. It will be interesting to see what the results are for me as I jump back to this model. Wish me luck Blueroof Nation.
